Guru Rinpoche

Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava or the “Lotus-Born,” is one of the most revered figures in Tibetan Buddhism. Believed to have been miraculously born from a lotus flower in the land of Oddiyana, he is considered a fully enlightened being who appeared in the world to spread the profound teachings of Vajrayana Buddhism. In the 8th century, Guru Rinpoche was invited to Tibet by King Trisong Detsen to help establish Buddhism and overcome powerful obstacles posed by local spirits and resistance. Through his mastery of tantric practices, he subdued these forces and founded the first monastery in Tibet at Samye, laying the foundation for the Nyingma school—the oldest of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism. He is often depicted holding a vajra and a skull cup, symbolizing his power to transform negative energies and his deep realization of emptiness.
