Guru Rinpoche

Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava or the “Lotus-Born,” is a revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism credited with bringing Vajrayana Buddhism to Tibet in the 8th century. Believed to be a fully enlightened being from birth, he is said to have miraculously appeared from a lotus flower in Lake Dhanakosha in the kingdom of Oddiyana. Invited by King Trisong Detsen, Guru Rinpoche helped establish the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet—Samye—and subdued local spirits to make the land receptive to the Dharma. He is considered the founder of the Nyingma school, the oldest of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, and is often called the “Second Buddha” for his profound impact.
