Chenrezig

Chenrezig, known in Sanskrit as Avalokiteśvara, is the bodhisattva of compassion and one of the most beloved figures in Tibetan Buddhism. He embodies the infinite mercy of all Buddhas and is considered the patron deity of Tibet. According to legend, Chenrezig vowed not to attain full enlightenment until all sentient beings were liberated from suffering. When he saw the vastness of suffering in the world, his body shattered in despair, but the Buddhas restored him with eleven heads and a thousand arms, each hand bearing an eye to symbolize the union of wisdom and compassionate action. His mantra, Om Mani Padme Hum, is among the most widely recited in Tibetan practice, believed to invoke his blessings and cultivate compassion in the heart of the practitioner.
