Manjushri

Manjushri, known as the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, is one of the most venerated figures in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. His name translates to “Gentle Glory,” reflecting his embodiment of transcendent insight and clarity. Often depicted as a youthful figure wielding a flaming sword in his right hand and holding a lotus flower bearing the Prajnaparamita Sutra in his left, Manjushri symbolizes the sharpness of wisdom that cuts through ignorance and the blossoming of enlightened understanding. He is associated with the pure land of Vimala, located in the East, and is frequently portrayed riding a lion, representing the fearless nature of wisdom. In Tibetan Buddhism, Manjushri is part of the Rig Sum Gonpo trinity, alongside Avalokiteshvara (compassion) and Vajrapani (power), and is invoked to enhance memory, eloquence, and philosophical insight. His mantra, Om Ah Ra Pa Tsa Na Dhih, is chanted to cultivate intellectual clarity and spiritual discernment.
