Vajrasattva

Vajrasattva is a central figure in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism who embodies the principle of purification and the radiant clarity of enlightened awareness, and he is especially revered for his ability to cleanse negative karma and mental obscurations. He is considered the sambhogakaya aspect of the Buddha, which means he manifests in a subtle, luminous form that communicates the Dharma to advanced practitioners. Depicted in pure white and adorned with celestial ornaments, Vajrasattva holds a vajra in his right hand to symbolize indestructible wisdom and a bell in his left hand to represent the sound of emptiness and the union of wisdom and compassion. His practice is foundational in Tibetan Buddhism, particularly in the preliminary Ngondro practices, where devotees recite his Hundred Syllable Mantra to purify past actions and restore broken spiritual commitments.
