Green Tara

Green Tara is a beloved goddess in Tibetan Buddhism who represents active compassion and swift protection. She is known as the “Mother of Liberation” and is deeply revered for her ability to respond instantly to the prayers of those in need. Her radiant green color symbolizes vitality and enlightened activity, and she is often depicted seated on a lotus with one leg extended, ready to step into the world to help. In her right hand, she displays the varada mudra, a gesture of giving and compassion, while her left hand holds a blue lotus called utpala, symbolizing purity and spiritual awakening. According to tradition, Green Tara was born from a tear of Avalokiteśvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, and vowed to always appear in female form to aid sentient beings. Her mantra, Om Tare Tuttare Ture Svaha, is chanted to invoke her blessings and cultivate courage, wisdom, and loving-kindness.
