Green Tara

Green Tara, known as Syamatara in Sanskrit, is a revered female Buddha in Tibetan and Mahayana Buddhism who embodies swift compassion and protective energy. Often called the “Mother of All Buddhas,” she is believed to have emerged from a tear of Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion, symbolizing her deep empathy for all beings. Green Tara is depicted with a radiant green hue, seated in a posture of “royal ease,” with one leg extended to show her readiness to act. Her right hand, in the gesture of giving, and her left hand, in the gesture of protection, reflect her dual role as a generous savior and fearless guardian. Devotees invoke her to overcome both worldly and spiritual obstacles, and she is especially associated with protection from the eight great fears, ranging from wild animals to inner turmoil.
