Guru Rinpoche

Guru Rinpoche, the Lotus-Born Buddha (Pema Jungné), is the supreme Second Buddha (Tönpa Gyalwa) of Vajrayana Buddhism, the Precious Guru (Guru Rinpoche) who fully established the sacred Dharma in the Land of Snow. At the request of the Dharma King Trisong Detsen, the Great Master of Uddiyana (Orgyen Pema Jungné) subjugated all obstacles—both mundane and supernatural—and ensured the flourishing of the Secret Mantra Vajrayana tradition in Tibet.

His coming was prophesied by Buddha Shakyamuni himself in the Mahaparinirvana Sutra, the sacred scripture containing the Buddha’s final teachings:

“The nature of all compounded things is impermanence. Since death is inevitable, the time has come for me to pass into Parinirvana. Do not grieve. Twelve years after my departure, a supreme emanation will appear—the Lotus-Born Guru (Padmasambhava), arising from the northwest land of Uddiyana. He will reveal and propagate the profound path of the Secret Mantra Vajrayana, bringing boundless benefit to beings.”
