Amitabha Buddha

Amitabha Buddha, one of the revered Five Dhyani Buddhas in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism, represents infinite light, compassion, and the wisdom of emptiness. Alongside Akshobhya, Amoghasiddhi, Ratnasambhava, and Vairocana, Amitabha Buddha holds a central role in spiritual practice, especially in the Pure Land tradition. Known for his connection to longevity, accumulation of merit, and purification of karma, Amitabha embodies the deep realization of the emptiness of all phenomena. According to Buddhist texts, Amitabha Buddha was once a great monarch who renounced his kingdom to become the monk Dharmakara Bodhisattva. After performing countless virtuous deeds over the span of five eons, he attained enlightenment and became the Amitabha Buddha, ruler of the Western Pure Land of Sukhavati. Today, devotees revere the Amitabha Buddha for his infinite compassion and wisdom, praying to him for rebirth in the Pure Land, liberation from suffering, and guidance toward ultimate enlightenment.
