Ekajati, Rahula, and Dorje Legpa

In Tibetan Buddhism, particularly within the Nyingma tradition, Ekajati, Rahula, and Dorje Legpa are revered as the Three Treasure Protectors (Ma Za Dam Sum), guardians of the sacred terma teachings. Ekajati, a fierce emanation of Tara, is the principal protector of Dzogchen teachings, depicted with one eye, one breast, and a single braid of hair—symbolizing her uncompromising focus and power to remove obstacles. Rahula, originally an eclipse demon from Indian astrology, was oath-bound by Guru Rinpoche to protect the Dharma; he is portrayed with nine heads, a face on his belly, and a serpentine body, embodying wrathful energy that subdues harmful forces and safeguards tantric vows. Dorje Legpa, once a Bon deity, was also bound by Padmasambhava to serve the Dharma; he rides a snow lion and wields a vajra, representing his fearless commitment to defending Buddhist teachings.
