Vajrasattva with Consort

Vajrasattva is a central deity in Tibetan Buddhism, revered as the embodiment of purity, meditation, and the removal of negative karma. Often depicted with a consort, Vajragarvi (or Vajra Varahi), their union symbolizes the inseparable bliss and emptiness, representing the tantric principle that wisdom and method must come together for spiritual realization. Vajrasattva holds a vajra and bell, signifying compassion and insight, while Vajragarvi embodies enlightened feminine energy, radiating transformative power. Practitioners invoke Vajrasattva for purification rituals, believing that meditative visualization of the deity clears mental obscurations and karmic impurities. An interesting story recounts how Vajrasattva revealed the 100-syllable mantra to cleanse negative karma, a practice now central to Vajrayana meditation and initiation rituals, emphasizing devotion, discipline, and the profound interconnection of all enlightened beings.
