Guru Rinpoche

Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava, which means “Lotus Born,” is a revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism and is considered the second Buddha because of his profound role in establishing Vajrayana Buddhism in Tibet during the 8th century. He was miraculously born as a fully enlightened child from a lotus in the lake of Dhanakosha in the kingdom of Oddiyana, and he declared his mission to complete the work of the Buddhas of the past, present, and future. Invited by King Trisong Detsen, he arrived in Tibet and, together with the Indian abbot Śāntarakṣita, helped build Samye Monastery, the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet, while also translating sacred texts into Tibetan and subduing hostile spirits to clear the path for Dharma to flourish. He taught advanced tantric practices and concealed spiritual treasures known as terma throughout the Himalayas, which were destined to be discovered by future tertons when the time was right.
