Vajrasattva

Vajrasattva is typically regarded as the second patriarch in the Shingon Buddhist lineage, with Vairocana Buddha being the first. According to Kukai's writings in the Record of the Dharma Transmission, Nagarjuna encountered Vajrasattva in an iron tower in southern India, based on the testimony of Amoghavajra. As recounted in the Mahavairocana Sutra, Vajrasattva inducted Nagarjuna into the abhiseka ceremony and entrusted him with the esoteric teachings he had received from Vairocana Buddha. While Kukai provides insights into this significant encounter, he does not delve deeply into the details of Vajrasattva or his origins.
