Begste Chen

Begtse Chen, also known as Chamsing (“Great Coat of Mail”) or Jamsran in Mongolian, is revered as a powerful protector of the Dharma and guardian of Buddhist practitioners. Originally a pre-Buddhist Mongolian war deity, he was incorporated into the Tibetan Buddhist pantheon as a wrathful guardian of the Kagyu lineage. His iconography conveys both martial power and spiritual authority, featuring elements such as a crown of skulls, scorpion-handled sword, bow and arrow, and lance, symbolizing the subjugation of obstacles, enemies, and negative forces. As a wrathful deity, Begtse Chen embodies fierce protection, courage, and unwavering devotion, safeguarding the teachings of Buddhism and the spiritual path of practitioners.
