Shakyamuni Statue

Siddhartha Gautama, who later became known as Shakyamuni Buddha, was born around the 5th century BCE in Lumbini, present-day Nepal. As the son of King Suddhodana, he was raised in a life of luxury, shielded from the harsh realities of the world. However, at the age of 29, Siddhartha ventured outside the palace and encountered the profound suffering that exists in human life—aging, illness, and death. This transformative experience deeply affected him and ignited a quest for understanding the nature of suffering and the path to enlightenment.
