Kshitigarbha Statue Iconography

Kshitigarbha is often portrayed with a distinctive crown and monk’s robes, emphasizing his high spiritual status and monastic commitment. His posture is typically depicted as seated with one hand holding a staff (khakkhara) adorned with six rings, symbolizing his ability to guide and protect souls through the six realms of existence. The staff also represents his vow to stay in the hell realms until all beings are liberated. Another common attribute is the lotus flower, which signifies purity and the Bodhisattva's ability to transform suffering into spiritual growth. The statue may also include a small image of Kshitigarbha in his hand or at his feet, representing his promise to help beings in every realm, including the afterlife.
