Description

Tsokye Dorje Sculpture | Finely Hand-Carved Copper Statue from Nepal

This Guru Tsokye Dorje statue portrays Padmasambhava in his enlightened lake-born form, seated regally upon a lotus pedestal. His semi-wrathful gaze and arched brows reflect the wisdom and protective power of the Vajra Guru. He wears the traditional lotus hat with its vulture feather finial and a richly patterned Tirpatika robe. His right hand holds a vajra to his heart while his left cradles a skull cup with the vase of immortality. A khatvanga staff crowned by a trident and three heads rests gracefully against his shoulder.

Brought to life by master artisans of the Kathmandu Valley, this statue is first hand-carved in wax before being cast in solid copper through the lost-wax process. The finished figure is layered with 24K gold fire-gilding while the face is hand-painted with fine gold pigment. Every fold of the Tirpatika robe is shaped through meticulous repoussé and hand-chasing for a soft and lifelike drape.

Turquoise and coral inlay accents the crown, robe and lotus base for vivid color against the gilded surface. From the lotus crown to the finely beaded pedestal, every detail reflects the refined heritage of Newar sacred art. A radiant centerpiece for meditation and spiritual practice, this Tsokye Dorje statue carries the protective blessings of Guru Rinpoche into any sacred space.

About Tsokye Dorje

Tsokye Dorje, which translates to the "Lake-Born Vajra" (or Saroruhavajra in Sanskrit), is a highly revered figure in Vajrayana Buddhism, recognized as one of the Eight Manifestations of Guru Padmasambhava, the master who established Buddhism in Tibet. He is said to have been miraculously born from a lotus on Lake Dhanakosha in the land of Oddiyana, embodying the union of wisdom and skillful means. Tsokye Dorje represents the peaceful aspect of Guru Rinpoche, symbolizing spiritual purity and indestructible wisdom; in his iconography, he is often depicted sitting in a meditative posture, holding a vajra in his right hand and a skull cup filled with the nectar of immortality in his left.
