Guru Rinpoche Statue – Buddhist Meditation Art from Nepal

Guru Rinpoche is a hand-made sculpture of a skilled Newari artist in Patan, Nepal. It is made of hardy copper and gilded with 24k fire-gilded gold. The face is gold-painted diligently. It is peaceful, prudent, and filled with spiritual power. The golden throne has hand set turquoise and coral stones, reverberating centuries of Tibetan sacred art.

Guru Rinpoche is placed upon a fancy lotus dais. He sits erectly and powerfully. In one hand he carries a skull cup, the symbol of profound wisdom and the metamorphosis of all the barriers. He also has a vajra, the emblem of indestructible truth in his other hand.

There is a khatvanga staff leaning on his arm, which indicates his mastery of the Tantric path. All the elements of this statue are in accordance with the classical tradition of Vajrayana iconography.

The throne is highly adorned. The golden structure, the turquoise and coral inlays and the flowing ceremonial robes all denote the richness and splendour of Himalayan Buddhist art. It is not merely an object of beauty. It is a sacred existence, one that brings the blessings and the power of one of the greatest masters of Buddhism.

Consecration Service

There is an empty chamber in this statue. It is supposed to house rolled mantras, sacred relics, incense, herbal powders, and fragrant wood.

Qualified monks fill the chamber during the ceremony of consecration and bless the statue with some ritual prayers. This renders the statue complete spiritually and ready to be placed on your altar.

Statue Care Guide

• Keeps in a glass cabinet to prevent dust, moisture and any form of accidental damage.

• Lightly dust using a clean soft cotton cloth. Do not work with coarse or rough material.

• Touch gold-plated surfaces as infrequently as possible. The tarnishing may occur with natural oils that are left on your skin.

• Do not use steel wool, metal brushes or scrubbing pads. These are able to scratch and damage the surface.

Who is Guru Rinpoche?

Guru Rinpoche is an individual who has significantly contributed to the history of Buddhism. His real name is Padmasambhava. He is known in tiberan as Guru Rinpoche, the Precious Guru. He is the second Buddha as well.

He was born in 8th century in a place known as Oddiyana. He did not just come in the world through a normal birth, he was born out of a lotus flower as per the sacred texts. He was born enlightened. He was dispatched to conquer evil powers and preach the Dharma.

Guru Rinpoche arrived in Tibet in the 8th century. Tibet was then ridden with great impediments. The local spirits and forces were hindering the propagation of Buddhism. They were all tamed by Guru Rinpoche.

He transformed them into guardians of the Dharma. Then he founded the Samye Monastery which was the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet. He sowed the Vedic Buddhism in the Tibetan soil. Those are alive still to day.

He is the founder of the Nyingma school, the oldest school of four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism. He concealed spiritual instructions known as terma throughout Tibet and the Himalayas to be found in the future by practitioners. These are treasures uncovered that are practised up to date. 

His mantra is “Om Ah Hung Vajra Guru Pema Siddhi Hum”. It is a potent and popularly recited mantra of Tibetan Buddhism. Practitioners recite it to evoke his blessings, his protection and his guidance on the way of liberation.
